Jasprit Bumrah fine-tuning his skills during a practice session.
Jasprit Bumrah arrived at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground nets with a clear focus. The Indian pace spearhead wasted no time, immediately launching into his routine. After a brief warm-up, the intensity increased as he marked his run-up, preparing for a powerful 20-minute spell. With several key batsmen absent, Bumrah tested the likes of Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, and Karun Nair.
He showcased his ability to trouble batsmen with his accuracy and variations, bowling both over and around the wicket. Beyond the technical skill, Bumrah's mental freshness was evident, a benefit of the three-day break. He bowled alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, forming a potent pace attack.
The trio, having played in the Headingley Test, ramped up their training on the second day in Birmingham after a lighter first session. Each bowler spent approximately thirty minutes honing their skills before practicing their batting in the nets.
Siraj concentrated on defensive techniques with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, while Bumrah rotated between nets, experiencing a range of bowling styles. From side-arm deliveries to slow bowling and throwdowns, Bumrah remained laser-focused. He also engaged in shadow practice while awaiting his turn to bat, steadily gaining confidence throughout the day.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja continued his batting practice, and Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep continued to impress. Kuldeep Yadav diligently worked on both his batting and bowling. With Bumrah's availability potentially influencing the selection of Akash or Arshdeep, Kuldeep is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation.
The left-arm wrist-spinner actively sought feedback from the support staff and teammates. Kuldeep experimented with different angles and lengths, and the dry Birmingham conditions could sway the team management to consider him for the second Test.
His physical condition appears excellent, and his bowling rhythm has been consistent since the pre-match sessions in Leeds. He engaged in a competitive battle with Shubman Gill before the first Test and continues to challenge Indian batsmen in Birmingham.

Kuldeep's dedication extends beyond bowling; he has devoted considerable time to improving his batting under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. For the past year and a half, Kuldeep has been committed to refining his batting and aims to make significant contributions with the bat.
After two days of intense practice, the team will take a break before reconvening on June 30. The bowlers will have the opportunity to rest, and bowling coach Morne Morkel can resume his playful wrestling with Arshdeep and Akash Deep at the team hotel. As for Bumrah, his participation remains uncertain for the next 48 hours.
