Addressing Kramnik with respect, Aronian's letter seeks to mend the rift that has formed between the two chess players. The appeal comes after Kramnik initiated legal proceedings in Geneva against Chess.com, Chessdom, and Czech GM David Navara, alleging defamation related to accusations of online cheating.

Aronian's letter acts as both a personal tribute and an attempt to mediate the dispute. He emphasizes Kramnik's significant influence on his career, referring to him as one of his "chess parents" and acknowledging Kramnik's impact on his chess development.

Aronian reflects on Kramnik's career, recalling victories against Garry Kasparov and Peter Leko, and referencing the contentious "Toiletgate" match against Veselin Topalov. He praises Kramnik's resilience and spirit in the face of adversity.

Aronian also addresses the changes he observes in Kramnik's recent behavior. "You are fighting your own demons," he writes, acknowledging the emotional impact of Kramnik's campaign against alleged cheating in online chess.

The letter follows a period of unrest. Earlier this year, Kramnik suggested Navara had cheated, prompting Navara to respond with a letter describing the detrimental effects of the accusations on his mental well-being.

Kramnik subsequently demanded legal action or silence, eventually filing the lawsuit. This action has generated criticism from within the chess community.

Fellow grandmasters, including Pavel Eljanov, have voiced support for Navara, with Eljanov stating that “David is one of the most honest people in chess.”

Aronian concludes his appeal on a note of unity: "We are a family... let us start from a fresh page.” His message promotes reconciliation within the chess world.
