Sanju Samson has been unstoppable in the Kerala Cricket League, producing yet another explosive innings on Thursday to mark his third consecutive fifty in the tournament. The 30-year-old fell for 62 from 37 balls, but it was another display of his attacking prowess and adaptability.
Samson’s remarkable run of form began with a blistering 121 in the third match of the tournament, where he reached his fifty in just 16 balls and completed his century in 42. In the fourth match, he followed it up with 89 from 46 balls. Now, in the sixth match, his 62-run knock has further underlined why he is one of the most in-form batters in domestic cricket.

The change in his batting position seems to have worked wonders. Earlier in the tournament, Samson batted at No. 6, but opening the innings has allowed him to showcase his natural attacking game and adapt to different situations. Fans and cricket experts are now eagerly watching to see where he might bat in India’s upcoming Asia Cup campaign, which begins on September 9.

What batting position should Sanju Samson play in the Asia Cup?
Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has voiced his support for Samson’s inclusion in the squad. “Shubman is back in the team, I’m sure he is most likely to open with Abhishek Sharma. Personally, I would like to see Sanju Samson in the team because he has done really well. He is a very confident guy, a very good team man, and that is very important,” Rahane said on his YouTube channel.
However, former India batter Aakash Chopra believes Samson might miss out due to team balance. “With Shubman Gill’s return, Sanju Samson’s fate has more or less been sealed. He will not feature in the playing XI now. You will not drop Tilak Varma or Hardik Pandya, which means Samson sits out and Jitesh Sharma will likely get the nod again,” Chopra said.
Despite the differing opinions, Samson’s consistent performances in the KCL have reignited the debate over India’s playing XI for the Asia Cup. His ability to score quickly and adapt to different positions makes him a valuable asset, and fans are watching closely to see if he will get a chance on the international stage once again.
