"My proposal was quite romantic," Sharma began. "I took her to the place where I started playing cricket. We were somewhere along Marine Drive. She had brought food from home, and after we ate, I told her I was bored and wanted to get ice cream. We drove from Marine Drive, crossed Haji Ali, Worli. She kept asking where the ice cream shop was. After Bandra, she had no idea where we were going. I told her there was a good one in Borivali, where I live, and that I wanted to show her around."

Sharma then described the pivotal moment at the cricket ground.

"It was a ground, completely dark, and she didn't realize it was a ground. I had already arranged for my friend to set everything up and capture the moment. We parked the car, I went on my knees in the middle of the pitch, and then I proposed to her," Sharma revealed.

India lose momentum on Day 2 | England Fight Back at Headingley

This revelation coincides with significant transitions in Sharma's cricket career. He recently retired from T20 internationals after India's victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He also stepped away from red-ball cricket in May 2025, just before the squad selection for the England Test series.

Following Sharma's retirement, Shubman Gill has assumed the captaincy of the Indian Test team.

Under Gill's leadership, the Indian team has demonstrated promising performance. In their first Test at Headingley, they posted a total of 471 runs in the first innings.

The strong batting display featured centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill, and Rishabh Pant. The team’s success underscores the ongoing strength of Indian cricket as it enters a new phase after Sharma's partial retirement from international cricket.

The timing of Sharma sharing his personal story offers fans a glimpse into his personal life amidst these evolving changes in Indian cricket.
