Rohit will be next seen playing in the ODI series against Australia in October. Ahead of the rubber, there have also been speculations around his retirement along with Virat Kohli. However, the BCCI have quashed such rumours as vice president Rajeev Shukla has denied such reports.
"When did they retire? Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli both will still play ODIs, so if they are still playing, then why talk about farewell now? Why are you people worrying already? Our policy is very clear – BCCI never tells any player to retire. He has to take his own decision. He himself has to take this call," said Shukla.
The last tournament Rohit and Kohli played was the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, where Kohli scored a hundred in a successful chase against Pakistan at the group league stage and also scored a match-winning 84 vs Australia in the semi-final. On the other hand, Rohit scored a match-winning 76 (83) against New Zealand to help India chase down 255 in 49 overs.
With the ODI World Cup 2027 two years away, the duo will have to maintain their form in the lead up to the tournament as several youngsters have been making their mark at the international level and making strong case for their selections.
